Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim accepts Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin’s resignation, affirms MACC independence
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has accepted the resignation of his senior political secretary, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to allowing independent investigations to proceed without interference.
In a statement today, the Prime Minister confirmed receiving and accepting the resignation of Shamsul from his position as senior political secretary. Anwar expressed his appreciation for Shamsul’s service during his tenure in the role.
“I accept the resignation of senior political secretary, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, and extend my thanks for his service,” the Prime Minister stated.
Addressing allegations that have emerged, Anwar emphasised that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has full autonomy to conduct immediate investigations without any external interference.
“Regarding the allegations that have arisen, I stress that the MACC is free to conduct immediate investigations, without any outside interference,” the Prime Minister declared in his statement.
Prime Minister Anwar reiterated that the MADANI Government remains firmly committed to its core principles of transparency and integrity. He stressed that the administration would provide space for investigative processes to proceed according to legal frameworks and the rule of law.
“The MADANI Government remains steadfast in its principles of transparency and integrity, and provides space for investigative processes according to legal foundations,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
Yesterday, Shamsul announced his resignation after former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s earlier call for action regarding a letter of support issued by one of the prime minister’s political secretaries.
