PM Anwar arrives in Turkiye for official visit to strengthen ties

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim begins a three-day visit to Turkiye, with meetings, trade talks and a diaspora event on the agenda.

ANKARA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Turkiye for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

Anwar landed at Esenboga International Airport on Sunday night at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He was accompanied by his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and a delegation including two senior ministers.

Upon arrival, he was greeted by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler.

His first scheduled event was a Sentuhan Kasih MADANI ceremony with the Malaysian diaspora in Ankara.

On Wednesday, Anwar is scheduled to hold a meeting and co-chair a strategic council session with President Erdogan.

He will also deliver a public lecture and participate in economic roundtables with Turkish companies in Istanbul.

According to Wisma Putra, total trade with Turkiye from January to November 2025 was RM21.2 billion.

Turkiye was Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in West Asia in 2024, with trade valued at RM24.15 billion.
