PMKL urges public to give Hannah Yeoh chance to prove ability

PMKL calls for end to racial issues over Hannah Yeoh’s appointment, urging focus on her performance in solving Kuala Lumpur’s traffic and housing problems

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Community Welfare Movement Organisation (PMKL) has called on all parties to give Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh the opportunity to prove her capability in leading the ministry.

PMKL chairman Hussen Zulkarai said racial issues should not be raised following the Segambut MP’s appointment, adding that assessment should be based on her performance and ability to solve problems for people in the Federal Territories, especially in the capital.

“Why is YB Hannah Yeoh’s appointment as Federal Territories Minister being made an issue? She hasn’t started work yet, hasn’t shown proof of her capability to carry out her duties,” he told reporters.

“We should give her the opportunity, give her time to prove her ability to manage the administration of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur,” he added.

Hussen said focus should instead be given to efforts to improve longstanding issues in Kuala Lumpur including traffic congestion, parking management, public housing and city cleanliness.

PMKL deputy Affa Syarifuddin said relevant parties including Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) need to implement proactive and integrated measures to solve main issues plaguing the capital.

He also raised problems of privately-owned buildings that are dirty, dilapidated and poorly maintained, creating safety issues, and the existence of abandoned vehicles in parking areas around the capital including in Public Housing Project (PPR) areas.

“For example, many abandoned cars in public parking areas, Public Housing Projects and Public Housing that are no longer used, besides shop premises misusing public parking for washing or selling vehicles,” he said.

“We ask DBKL to enforce the law and take firm action so that Kuala Lumpur becomes more organised, clean and comfortable for the people,” Affa added.
