PAS deputy president confirms party’s approval for its Karambunai assemblyman to back Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, strengthening the state administration.
KUANTAN: PAS has approved its Karambunai assemblyman Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan’s support for Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the decision followed discussions at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council meeting.
“Although we are not involved in the formation of the Sabah Cabinet, PAS’ stance is to support Hajiji as Sabah Chief Minister,” he told reporters.
Tuan Ibrahim expressed confidence that the Sabah state administration would be strengthened through Hajiji’s experience and PAS’ support.
He added that Aliakbar’s good rapport with Hajiji would help him carry out his duties as the elected representative.
When asked if this contradicted a statement by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Tuan Ibrahim said the issue did not arise as the Karambunai assemblyman was from PAS.
“We have already informed this matter during the PN meeting,” he added.
Muhyiddin was reported yesterday as saying that PN had decided Aliakbar would remain in the opposition.
Aliakbar won the Karambunai seat for PAS with 7,054 votes in an 11-cornered contest during the 17th Sabah State Election.
