About 14 Perak Bersatu division chiefs call for president Muhyiddin Yassin to step down, citing party crisis and electoral defeat.
IPOH: A total of 14 Perak Bersatu division chiefs have called for party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down to make way for renewal.
The group made the call during a press conference attended by several state division heads, deputies, and secretaries. They expressed unanimous concern over the ongoing crisis within the party.
Pasir Salak division chief Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, acting as spokesperson, said Muhyiddin must take responsibility for the turmoil. This includes Bersatu’s defeat in the 17th Sabah State Election.
“If this action is not taken now, we fear that Bersatu will be rejected in all constituencies during the 16th General Election,” he said. “The president must demonstrate humility and leadership.”
Zainol Fadzi also claimed personal issues involving the Perikatan Nasional chairman had become a liability. He said this resulted in public rejection of both Bersatu and its coalition.
The group further questioned actions by Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board. It suspended and expelled several leaders, including Ipoh Timur division chief Muhammad Fadhli Ismail on Oct 14.
The 14 divisions supporting the call include Bersatu Tanjung Malim, Pasir Salak, and Teluk Intan. Others are Tapah, Kampar, Gopeng, Parit, Beruas, Ipoh Timor, Padang Rengas, Bukit Gantang, Bagan Serai, Larut, and Gerik.
