PH candidate Ruji Ubi unveils five-pillar manifesto for Merotai, focusing on education, economy, healthcare, social facilities and infrastructure
TAWAU: Pakatan Harapan candidate Datuk Ruji Ubi has launched his five-theme manifesto for the Merotai state constituency ahead of the Sabah election.
Titled ‘Demi Merotai Sejahtera’, the manifesto focuses on education, economic development, healthcare, social well-being and infrastructure improvements.
Ruji aims to transform Merotai into a Centre for Civilisation and Knowledge Development through these initiatives.
He highlighted the pressing issue of secondary school shortages forcing children to commute long distances to Tawau Town or Felda Umas.
On economic development, Ruji emphasized creating job and business opportunities for rural youth through regular career fairs with agencies like the Labour Department.
For healthcare, he pledged to establish a haemodialysis centre in Merotai to save patients from travelling to Tawau for treatment.
“Patients from Kijang, Brumas and Umas must travel to Tawau, having to leave as early as 4 or 5 am to undergo haemodialysis there,” he said.
On social facilities, Ruji promised to convert the PH operations room in Tanah Merah into a permanent constituency service centre if elected.
He also committed to launching mobile service centres in Kampung Haji Matahir and Kampung Kijang to bring administrative services directly to residents.
The candidate proposed establishing recreational centres and a mini sports complex to address the current lack of community facilities.
“For infrastructure, I will install solar-powered street lights, construct jetties, repair roads, improve drainage and resolve clean water supply issues,” he added.
Ruji emphasized Merotai’s significant economic potential through strategic development comparable to thriving areas like Benoni and Papar.
He described the state elections as a critical juncture for the constituency’s future development.
“The representative chosen this time will determine the future of the next generation,” he stressed.
“We cannot have a government for the next five years that simply repeats or inherits the same old problems.”
Polling for the Sabah state election is set for November 29 with early voting on November 25. – Bernama
