AMK chief argues a 10-year prime ministerial term limit will not harm the nation, stating leaders can contribute in other roles after office.
IPOH: Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said a proposal to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure to a maximum of 10 years would not harm the country.
He said a leader could continue to contribute to the nation in various other capacities after their term.
“We must view this from a positive perspective,” said Muhammad Kamil, who is also political secretary to the Finance Minister.
He made these remarks after attending a Back-to-School programme under the Sejahtera MADANI initiative here.
The proposal has both advantages and disadvantages, he acknowledged.
He stressed it should not hinder the introduction of new and fresh political changes.
Muhammad Kamil also expressed appreciation to UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his stance on maintaining political stability.
“This differs from the leadership of a small group, who speak emotionally and place personal or party interests above the country’s,” he said.
He urged all parties within the Unity Government to refrain from internal disputes and focus on serving the people.
His comments follow Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s reported concern that such a limit could be detrimental if capable young leaders are barred from reappointment.
