UMPSA to decide student’s fate in Quran case next week

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah will announce its disciplinary decision next week for a student charged with desecrating the Quran.

KUANTAN: The outcome of disciplinary proceedings against a Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student accused of desecrating the Quran is due next week.

UMPSA vice-chancellor Prof Dr Yatimah Alias confirmed the decision will be communicated to the Higher Education Ministry.

She stated the process follows Rule 58 of the Universities and University Colleges (UMPSA) (Student Discipline) Rules 2024.

Penalties under this rule can include expulsion from the university if the student is found guilty.

Yatimah addressed the matter at a press conference following a UMPSA-media collaboration event.

The student, S. Vikneswaran, 21, was charged at the Sessions Court here yesterday.

He pleaded not guilty to desecrating the Quran and posting offensive communication on social media last month.
