Kremlin blasts Ukraine for ‘reckless’ strikes on key gas pipeline

Russia accuses Ukraine of targeting a major gas pipeline to Turkey with drone strikes, calling the attacks on critical infrastructure ‘reckless’.

MOSCOW: The Kremlin has accused Ukraine of launching “reckless” drone strikes against a major gas pipeline in southern Russia that supplies Turkey.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned the overnight attacks on the Russkaya compressor station, describing the pipeline as an “international facility” that “ensures energy security for Turkey”.

Russia’s defence ministry stated it had shot down 10 Ukrainian-launched drones early on Thursday above the gas compressor station supplying the TurkStream pipeline.

The targeted station is located in Russia’s Krasnodar region, an area frequently hit by Ukrainian drone strikes during the four-year conflict.

State-owned gas giant Gazprom confirmed the Russkaya and Beregovaya stations were attacked, labelling them critical infrastructure for reliable exports via the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines.

“These are absolutely reckless actions by the Kyiv regime,” Peskov said, as the war that has killed thousands and displaced millions continues.

Ukraine has repeatedly struck Russian energy targets throughout Moscow’s offensive, while Russia has devastated much of Ukraine’s own energy infrastructure.
