Prada-owned Versace appoints Pieter Mulier, the outgoing Alaia designer, as its new creative director to revitalise the brand.
MILAN: Versace has appointed Pieter Mulier as its new creative director. The Belgian designer is currently the creative director at the Parisian fashion house Alaia, owned by Swiss luxury group Richemont.
Alaia announced last month that Mulier would depart after its Paris Fashion Week show in March. He joined Alaia in 2021, having previously served as global creative director at Calvin Klein and as a design director at Christian Dior.
Mulier will begin his new role at Versace in July. His appointment follows the exit of the brand’s previous creative director, Dario Vitale, who left at the end of 2025 after only a few months in the position.
The move comes as Versace’s new owner, Prada, focuses on relaunching the brand. Prada completed its acquisition of Versace in December, following a period of declining sales for Versace under its previous owner, Capri Holdings.
Lorenzo Bertelli, Versace’s executive chairman and the son of Prada’s owners, said Mulier was the right person to “unlock Versace’s full potential and engage in a fruitful dialogue with the brand’s strong legacy”. The broader luxury sector has been experiencing a slowdown in demand.
