US orders non-emergency staff out of Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq

The US State Department orders non-emergency personnel to leave Bahrain, Jordan, and Iraq amid escalating regional tensions and Iranian retaliation.

WASHINGTON: The US State Department has ordered non-emergency government personnel to depart from Bahrain, Jordan, and Iraq.

The department announced the updated travel advisories and ordered departures via posts on social media platform X.

It stated the advisory for Bahrain and Jordan was updated to reflect the “ordered departure of non-emergency US government personnel and family members of government personnel.”

A separate post confirmed non-emergency US government employees were ordered to leave Iraq on Monday due to security concerns.

The moves come as Iran retaliates against joint US-Israeli strikes over the weekend.

Tehran said those strikes killed dozens of civilians and the country’s supreme leader.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they targeted a United States air base in Bahrain.

In Iraq, hundreds of protesters attempted to storm Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, which houses the US embassy.

The US embassy in Amman, Jordan, said it had temporarily evacuated its staff due to an unspecified threat.

The Jordanian kingdom also stated it has intercepted more than a dozen missiles since Iran began retaliatory attacks.
