The upcoming film ‘Sentuhan Wira’ reveals its main cast, aiming to recreate Malaysia’s iconic 1992 Thomas Cup victory and inspire a new generation with its story of national spirit.
VICTORY Pictures has officially unveiled the main cast of Sentuhan Wira, its upcoming film retelling Malaysia’s historic 1992 Thomas Cup victory.
The ceremony, held at M Resort Hotel, also featured a symbolic script handover marking the project’s move into its final pre-production phase.
The film revisits the landmark win that ended Malaysia’s 25-year drought and united the nation.
Archival footage of the 1992 final was screened, giving guests a chance to relive the defining moment.
Director Lenny Ooi described the project as “a piece of national heritage”, stressing that the team’s collective spirit — not just the victory — is central to the film.
Together with co-director Nick Ooi, he also introduced the main cast, joined by badminton legends Datuk Rashid Sidek and Datuk Cheah Soon Kit, who are serving as production advisers.
The lead cast includes Kim Azzim as Rashid Sidek, Sam Liew as Cheah Soon Kit, Ahmad Syafiq bin Khairul Anuar as Razif Sidek, Ahmad Syahir bin Mohd Shafe’in as Jalani Sidek, Azim Yusof as Rahman Sidek, Hon Kahoe as Foo Kok Keong, Liang Chia as Soo Bing Kiang, S Jay as Kuan Yoke Ming, and Henry Ong as Wong Ewee Mun.
Former national players will provide technical and historical guidance to ensure authenticity.
The production team also acknowledged support from its key sponsors, Mah Sing as the main sponsor and M Resort Hotel as the venue sponsor.
Tokens of appreciation were presented during the event.
The filmmakers hope Sentuhan Wira will help younger Malaysians understand the significance of the 1992 triumph and embrace its message of resilience and ambition.
“The Thomas Cup taught us that success is about spirit,” Ooi said.
With the cast confirmed, full-scale filming is set to begin in early 2026 ahead of a nationwide release.
Victory Pictures also aims to bring the film to international audiences.
