JDT and Kuching City clash in the Charity Shield on Aug 21, kicking off the 2026-2027 M-League season with Super League points at stake.
THE Charity Shield match between defending Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and visiting Kuching City FC at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri, on August 21 will serve as the curtain-raiser for the 2026–2027 Malaysian League (M-League) season.
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) said today that the clash between JDT and Kuching City will also be the opening Super League match, offering points toward the league standings.
According to the MFL, the new Super League season – which features 10 other teams: Selangor FC, Kuala Lumpur City FC, Terengganu FC, Star City FC (formerly known as Imigresen FC), Negeri Sembilan FC, Penang FC, Sabah FC, DPMM FC, Melaka FC, and new arrivals from the A1 League, Kelantan Red Warrior FC – will run until May 23, 2027.
“The FA Cup tournament is scheduled to begin on September 1-2, 2026, following the draw ceremony on August 10, 2026, with the final taking place on January 16, 2027 while the prestigious Malaysia Cup, entering its 100th edition, will kick off on Jan 22-24, 2027, culminating in the final on May 30, 2027,” the statement read.
The MFL also announced that the Malaysia Cup draw is expected to take place on December 31, 2026, involving 12 Super League clubs and four A1 League clubs, matching the format of the FA Cup tournament.
Meanwhile, the MFL noted that the Challenge Cup will kick off with the quarter-final stage on February 10–11, 2027, followed by a two-legged final on April 11, 2027, and April 18, 2027.
The MFL added that the eight clubs failing to qualify for the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals will compete for the Challenge Cup title.
