Thomas Frank calls for Tottenham unity after Vicario jeers

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank urges fans to back the team during matches after goalkeeper Vicario was booed in a home defeat to Fulham.

TOTTENHAM Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has appealed for unity from the club’s supporters following jeers directed at goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Vicario was booed during Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Fulham after an error that led to the winning goal.

The loss extended a poor run of home form, with Spurs having won just three of their last 21 Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Frank had initially criticised those who jeered, saying they were “not true Tottenham fans”.

Ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Newcastle United, Frank sought to clarify his comments and build bridges.

“I completely understand the frustration,” Frank said.

“If we don’t win, there will always be a frustration, so that is normal.”

He emphasised the symbiotic relationship between the team and its supporters.

“We are nothing without the fans,” Frank stated.

“No club is anything without the fans. Tottenham Hotspur, we are nothing without our fantastic fans.”

The manager stressed that unity during matches is crucial for success.

“My point was during matches that’s where we need each other,” he explained.

“After, fair with the booing, but during, that is when I want to create a fortress.”

Frank concluded that creating a strong home atmosphere requires a collective effort.

“If any club wants to be successful, you need to create a fortress,” he said.

“If you want to create a fortress, it can only be together. Fans, team.” – AFP
