LA 2028 Olympics committee backs chairman after Epstein review

The LA28 executive committee supports chairman Casey Wasserman after a legal review of his past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell

THE executive committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics has affirmed its support for chairman Casey Wasserman to continue in his role. This follows a legal review of his past interactions with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

The committee stated that Wasserman’s relationship with the pair “did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented”. Wasserman faced calls to resign after flirtatious 2003 emails between him and Maxwell were revealed in recently released US Justice Department files.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for trafficking underage girls for Epstein. Wasserman, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing, previously apologised for the exchange.

He stated it occurred before Maxwell’s crimes were publicly known. An external legal review, commissioned by LA28, examined Wasserman’s interactions.

The chairman fully cooperated with the investigation. The review confirmed his single interaction with Epstein was a 2003 humanitarian trip to Africa on Epstein’s plane, arranged by the Clinton Foundation.

Shortly after this trip, he exchanged the now-public emails with Maxwell. The executive committee acknowledged these facts in its decision.

It also cited Wasserman’s “strong leadership” over the past decade heading the organisation. The committee is committed to delivering a safe and successful Games.

“LA28 takes allegations of misconduct seriously and our board is committed to thoroughly reviewing any concerns related to the organization’s leadership,” the board’s statement said.
