Sunway Medical Centre marks 100th robotic spine surgery with new tech

Hospital strengthens position as pioneer in advanced spinal care in Malaysia with 100th milestone

Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) marked its 100th robotic spine surgery milestone with the AiBle Spine Surgical Suite, reinforcing its position as a pioneer in advanced spinal care in Malaysia.

Launched in February 2025, the AiBle Spine Surgical Suite introduced a new generation of robotic guidance support designed to improve precision, consistency and efficiency in spine procedures. The highlights strong clinical adoption and positions SMC among early adopters of the technology in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

SMC CEO Dr Seow Vei Ken said the achievement reflects the strength of collaboration across its multidisciplinary teams at the Robotic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre.

“With AiBle integrated with our advanced MRI and CT imaging systems, we have further enhanced the tools available for clinicians to treat complex spinal conditions. This reflects our team’s dedication and strengthens our commitment to advancing innovation, clinical excellence and positive patient outcomes,” he said.

The AiBle suite supports surgical planning and intraoperative navigation for spine procedures.

Through integrated three-dimensional planning and real-time surgical guidance, the system assists surgeons in improving implant placement accuracy while supporting minimally invasive techniques. The technology is also designed to help reduce intraoperative and post-operative complications, while lowering radiation exposure.

The introduction of AiBle also reflects SMC’s ongoing efforts to expand access to advanced spine care for Malaysians.

The hospital commemorates the milestone with a special event highlighting the role of robotic technology in improving treatment outcomes.

SMC also holds three major hospital-wide accreditations, including the Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal of Approval from the United States, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI), and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
