Trump’s first State of the Union of second term scheduled for February 24

President Donald Trump will deliver his first formal State of the Union address on February 24, 2026, to a joint session of Congress.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump’s first formal State of the Union address of his second term is scheduled for February 24, 2026.

House Speaker Mike Johnson announced the date in a public letter to the president on Wednesday.

“We look forward to advancing the important work ahead of us in 2026, serving the American people, defending liberty, and preserving this grand experiment in self-governance,” Johnson wrote.

The address will be delivered to a Joint Session of Congress in the chamber of the US House of Representatives.

Trump last addressed a joint session in March 2025, but such first-year speeches are not officially designated as State of the Union events.

The upcoming speech arrives amid domestic political challenges over living costs and immigration policy.

It also follows international criticism of an increasingly assertive US foreign policy that has concerned neighbors and allies.

The address is expected to outline Trump’s vision for a pivotal year ahead.

Democrats could curb his executive power if they regain a House majority in the upcoming midterm elections.

“The United States stands stronger, freer and more prosperous under your leadership and bold action,” Speaker Johnson added.

He stated that the administration and Congress delivered “one of the most consequential agendas in history” in 2025.
