Svitolina wins Auckland title in Australian Open warm-up

Elina Svitolina claims 19th career title with Auckland Classic victory over Wang Xinyu, boosting her form ahead of the Australian Open.

AUCKLAND: Top seed Elina Svitolina secured a straight-sets victory over China’s Wang Xinyu in the Auckland Classic final.

The Ukrainian won 6-3, 7-6 (8/6) to claim her 19th career title in a baseline battle featuring just one service break.

“It definitely feels amazing to win another title and especially after not a very pleasant end of year for me,” Svitolina said.

The world number 13 was playing her first tournament in four months after ending her 2025 season early for mental health reasons.

She stated the break helped her “regroup and come back with new energy.”

Svitolina boasts a remarkable record in WTA finals, having now won 19 of her 23 appearances.

The victory serves as strong preparation for the Australian Open, where she reached the quarter-finals last year.

For seventh seed Wang Xinyu, it was just her second WTA final appearance.

The 57th-ranked player is recovering from injury disruptions that have hampered her over the last two years.
