Sterling leaves Chelsea after exile and failed Arsenal loan

England forward Raheem Sterling leaves Chelsea by mutual consent, ending a troubled spell after being frozen out of the first-team squad

RAHEEM Sterling has left Chelsea by mutual consent, the club confirmed, ending a three-and-a-half-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old forward had been training separately from the first-team squad after failing to secure a summer transfer.

“We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career,” a club statement said.

Sterling joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 for £47 million but struggled to replicate his previous form.

He was consigned to a group of unwanted players by former manager Enzo Maresca and not selected by successor Liam Rosenior.

A disappointing loan spell at Arsenal last season preceded his total exclusion from Chelsea’s matchday squads this term.

Sterling last played a competitive game for Chelsea in May 2024, making 81 total appearances for the club.

He had 18 months remaining on a contract reportedly worth £325,000 per week.

Linked with Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen and Fulham last summer, Sterling is now a free agent able to join any club.
