Police confirm a stab wound to the chest killed a bank executive, with her eldest son arrested as the prime suspect in the Alor Setar murder case.
ALOR SETAR: A stab wound to the chest has been confirmed as the cause of death for a 52-year-old bank operations executive found dead in her home on Monday.
Kota Setar police chief ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali said the autopsy at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah found the fatal injury pierced the victim’s left lung and heart.
“The stab wound to the chest caused severe internal bleeding,” he said in a statement today.
He added the injury could have caused death within a short period.
The doctor confirmed the wounds were inflicted by a hard, sharp object like a kitchen knife.
The victim, Zahrullail Basir, was discovered with three stab wounds to her body, including her abdomen.
She also had cuts on her head and palms.
Police arrested a 28-year-old man, the victim’s eldest child, within 24 hours of the discovery.
The suspect has been remanded until February 9 to assist with the investigation.
Syed Basri said initial investigations revealed the suspect had financial pressures.
“The suspect took a loan from an ‘Ah Long’ in Penang,” he stated.
He also had to pay RM700 monthly for his motorcycle rental, in addition to his room rent.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
