Malaysia anticipates positive economic and tourism spillover from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent official visit, following the signing of new bilateral agreements.

PUTRAJAYA: The recent official visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to generate positive spillover effects for Malaysia in trade, tourism and the economy. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated the Cabinet was briefed on the outcomes of the visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, highlighted that several memoranda of understanding were exchanged, reflecting the close bilateral relationship. “We expect spillover effects, whether in tourism or the economy, to have a positive impact on Malaysia,” he said during his weekly press conference.

The two-day visit at Anwar’s invitation concluded with 11 MoUs and documents covering various sectors of cooperation. Malaysia-India economic relations continue to show strong momentum, with total bilateral trade reaching RM79.49 billion in 2025.

In a separate matter, Fahmi also addressed radio practitioners in conjunction with World Radio Day. He called on them to ensure effective communication by delivering accurate information and quality entertainment to listeners.

He said the effort is crucial to ensure radio remains a trusted medium for uniting society and strengthening global harmony. “I would like to take this opportunity to record my highest appreciation to all radio personnel,” he added.

World Radio Day is celebrated on February 13 each year, with this year’s theme being “Radio and Artificial Intelligence (AI)”.
