IIUM student shares a cat boarding Rapid bus, sparking jokes and laughter online

AN unexpected feline passenger has amused social media users after boarding a Rapid bus at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

In a Threads post, Aina recounted how a “tiny paw-ssenger” casually entered the bus she was travelling on at the university campus.

When the bus captain repeatedly asked the cat, “Hey, where are you going?”, it simply meowed in response and strolled in as if it owned the vehicle, she said.

“Anyway, the uncle opened the back door and I carried the cat down at the AIKOL (Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws) bus stop. I know IIUM has loads of cats, but knowing how to get on a Rapid bus?” she wrote, expressing her surprise.

Aina also shared another memorable cat encounter on campus — this time involving an “oyen”, the affectionate local term for an orange cat.

“There was this one time I was catching the last bus at 10pm. Just after passing the UIA main gate, the driver suddenly braked. He got off the bus to pick up an orange cat. He looked at it for a while and then put it back down.

“When he came back onto the bus, he told me his own cat — also an orange one — had been missing for a week. He thought it might have been his cat. He even showed me a photo of his cat on his phone,” she said.

The comments section quickly filled with witty responses.

Haiqal Niza joked that perhaps the cat was late for “claws” — a playful pun on “class”.

Another user quipped that the cat might be a student. “In a bit, when you reach the entrance and the guard checks your matric card, then you’ll know what’s what,” the user wrote.

Nor Akmal Daman suggested the cat boarded the bus to conduct a “spot check”.

Puteri, meanwhile, remarked on how clever cats have become. “Cats are something else these days. If they live in a condo, they even know how to use the lift,” she said.
