Over 950,000 retired civil servants to benefit from SSPA phase two

Over 950,000 civil service retirees will benefit from the second phase of SSPA pension adjustments starting January 2026, the Public Service Department confirms.

MELAKA: Over 950,000 civil service retirees will benefit from Phase 2 adjustments under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) starting January 2026.

Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said this demonstrates the government’s commitment to appreciating retirees who served in their respective fields.

“The first phase has been implemented and Insya Allah, we will wait until January for the second phase to begin, and retirees will enjoy the adjustment of their pensions,” he told reporters after the Outreach Programme for Ailing Pensioners.

He stated this proves that although they have retired, their welfare remains a government priority.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan spoke during a working visit to Kampung Pulau Kelapa, Batu Hampar Peringgit.

He earlier visited and donated an electric wheelchair to Azhar Hashim, 63, who served in the Melaka Finance and Treasury Department before retiring in 2009 due to health reasons.

Wan Dahlan also visited and presented a bed donation to retired Melaka Immigration Department officer Bakhri Tamby Ali, 63, who suffers from kidney and heart problems.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the phased adjustments in August 2024.

Officers from the Implementing, Management and Professional groups opting for the SSPA scheme will receive a 15% phased salary adjustment.

They will get 8% for Phase 1 in December 2024 and 7% for Phase 2 in January 2026.

The Senior Management Group will receive a 7% salary adjustment, with 4% for Phase 1 and 3% for Phase 2.

Malaysian Armed Forces retirees who retired before January 2013 will receive a second adjustment of 7%. – Bernama
