Kelantan logs just 27% of five-year timber quota

Kelantan has used only 27% of its approved logging quota for 2021-2025, with actual timber revenue reaching RM907.88 million in 2024.

KOTA BHARU: The state government has utilised only 27.2% of its approved timber logging quota for the 2021-2025 period.

Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Fadzli Hassan revealed that only 5,305 hectares were logged from the total 19,500-hectare allocation approved by the National Land Council.

“The area opened for logging has decreased each year, as much of the approved quota remains unused,” he said during the state budget debate.

From the annual allocation of 3,900 hectares, logging activities covered 1,277 hectares in 2021, 1,702 hectares in 2022, 740 hectares in 2023, 846 hectares in 2024, and 740 hectares in 2025.

This leaves 14,195 hectares, or 72.8% of the five-year quota, completely unused.

Mohamed Fadzli also reported that the state’s actual timber revenue for 2024 reached RM907.88 million, achieving 93.86% of the targeted collection.

He confirmed that similar performance is expected for this year’s timber revenue collection.

Meanwhile, the state government permits residents to conduct gold panning in designated areas under conditional licences.

“This activity is permitted on state-owned land, subject to the issuance of a conditional licence,” he explained.

The licence system helps record and monitor mining activities while ensuring safety and environmental preservation.

Mohamed Fadzli added that the state currently holds gold reserves worth approximately RM51 million based on current market value. – Bernama
