Ukraine receives 1,000 bodies of soldiers from Russia in repatriation

Ukraine receives 1,000 bodies claimed to be its soldiers from Russia, part of ongoing repatriation efforts amid the ongoing conflict between the two nations

KYIV: Ukraine announced it has received 1,000 bodies from Russia in the latest repatriation of war dead.

Kyiv’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War confirmed the transfer occurred on Thursday.

“The bodies, claimed by the Russian side to belong to Ukrainian servicemen, were returned to Ukraine,” the agency stated on social media.

Ukrainian investigators will now conduct examinations to identify the repatriated remains.

Russian state media reported the exchange involved 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers’ bodies for 30 Russian soldiers’ remains.

This marks one of the few remaining areas of cooperation between the warring nations.

Ukraine has now received a total of 15,000 repatriated bodies from Moscow throughout the conflict. – AFP
