The Karnival Alam Kita 2026 continues in Johor to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage community action through green lifestyle practices.
JOHOR BAHRU: The Karnival Alam Kita (KAK) 2026, organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRES), continues in Johor to strengthen awareness and encourage community action to preserve the environment through green lifestyle practices.
The Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability (NRES) Minister Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said that the organisational approach of this year’s KAK is to bring various information, technology, services, and opportunities directly to the people so that they can see for themselves how sustainability practices can be implemented in daily life.
He said that the sustainability agenda is not solely the responsibility of the ministry, but rather a trust that needs to be shouldered together starting from home, school, workplace and within the community.
“When we talk about natural resources or environmental sustainability, many immediately think of rare earth elements (REE), minerals, electronic waste (e-waste), climate change or forestry. In reality, all these issues are very close to our lives.
“The real challenge is how we convey these issues in a language that is easier to understand, closer to daily life, and makes the people feel that they also have a role,” he said while speaking at the KAK 2026 launching ceremony at the Dewan Muafakat Bukit Gambir yesterday.
Also present were NRES deputy secretary-general (Natural Resources) Datuk Khalid Mohamed, and the Tangkak district education officer Khairul Hizam Hassan.
At the same event, NRES also launched the Young Environmental Ambassador Programme, an initiative for environmental awareness training among school teenagers aimed at producing young leaders to guide communities and families in adopting a sustainable lifestyle.
In addition, the clean-up initiative KUDAH, implemented by the NRES Lestari Squad in collaboration with strategic partner Bateriku (M) Sdn Bhd, was also held to support the country’s efforts in transforming towards a green economy and achieving the aspiration of net zero carbon by 2050.
Through the activity, a total of 37 kg of waste was successfully collected, including 17.3 kg of plastic bottles, which are estimated to contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions of 43.2 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), equivalent to the carbon emissions from driving a petrol car for approximately 100 kilometres.
KAK 2026 also features various interactive activities with government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and strategic partners, including campaigns for recycling electronic waste and used cooking oil, biodiversity awareness exhibitions and sales of green products.
