A 60-year-old man dies after his van collides with a trailer and car on the Jeniang-Bukit Selambau road in Sungai Petani.
SUNGAI PETANI: A 60-year-old man died this morning after the van he was driving was involved in a collision with a trailer and a car at Batu 34, Jalan Jeniang-Bukit Selambau.
In a statement today, Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said a report of the incident was made at 8.00 am.
He said the 33-year-old trailer driver was travelling from Jeniang towards Bukit Selambau when he lost control, veered into oncoming traffic, and ploughed into the van and a car.
The van driver, identified as Hassan Salleh, sustained critical injuries and was trapped inside his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his remains have been sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.
The driver of the car, a 46-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. She has been identified as Datin Norhashimah Md Nowar, wife of former Belantik assemblyman Datuk Mohd Tajudin Abdullah.
She is being treated at a private hospital in the area. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
