Pakatan Harapan reports vandalised campaign materials in Negeri Sembilan, urges an end to hate politics and calls for legal action.
SEREMBAN: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) main operations room has received several reports of the coalition’s campaign materials being damaged in several constituencies across Negeri Sembilan on the second day of the election campaign yesterday.
In a statement today, the PH state election media centre secretariat said the incidents included party flags being torched in the Palong state constituency last night and flagpoles being vandalised in the Chembong state constituency this morning.
“PH wishes to state that we reserve the right to take legal action under Section 4A of the Election Offences Act 1954 and Section 427 of the Penal Code if it is proven that election campaign materials such as posters, flags or banners have been sabotaged, damaged or removed by rival parties, as such acts constitute an offence.
“State constituency operations room election directors have already been advised to lodge the appropriate police reports, although PH has no intention of pointing fingers at any party at this stage,” it said.
PH also called on all parties to put an end to the culture of hate politics and urged its party machinery not to retaliate against any acts that may have been committed by those seeking to create tension during the campaign.
PH also reminded all parties that the right to engage in political activities and campaign in a healthy manner is protected under the Federal Constitution, particularly under the provisions on Fundamental Liberties (Part II) and other basic political rights.
“Win the hearts of the people and voters with clear policies, not through baseless politics of sabotage and hatred,” it said.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed that police had received a report regarding the alleged sabotage of campaign materials in Jempol, while investigations into a similar incident in Chembong are still ongoing.
