Police investigate the murder of an unidentified woman whose body was found bound with rope in a Johor river.
JOHOR BAHRU: The body of a woman was found with her hands and feet bound with rope in the Sungai Tanjung Serindit in Ulu Papan, Pengerang, near Kota Tinggi, last night.
Kota Tinggi police chief ACP Yusof Othman said police received a report from a member of the public at about 9 pm that the body of a woman, whose identity and nationality have yet to be established, was found floating in the river.
He said police officers from the Kota Tinggi district police headquarters, assisted by the Forensic Unit from the Johor police contingent headquarters, were sent to the scene to conduct forensic examinations.
“The victim’s identity has yet to be established and the cause of death is still being investigated,” he said in a statement today.
Yusof said the case had been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and the body was taken to Pasir Gudang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
He appealed to anyone with information related to the case, or who has relatives reported missing, to contact the investigating officer, ASP Noor Azizi Indzam, from the Kota Tinggi district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division, at 013-7878771, to assist with the probe.
