A 23-year-old man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run while putting up party election flags in Rantau. Police are searching for the lorry driver.
PETALING JAYA: A man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run while putting up party election flags along Jalan Kuala Sawah–Rantau in Negeri Sembilan on Sunday evening (July 19).
The 23-year-old victim was reportedly struck by a lorry, whose driver fled the scene shortly afterwards, at about 6.40pm, according to Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Yatim Osman, Harian Metro reported.
“Initial investigations found that the man was on the left shoulder of the road heading towards Rantau while putting up party flags,” he said on Monday (July 20).
He added that the lorry, whose registration number could not be identified, is believed to have crashed into a signboard before hitting the pedestrian.
The victim reportedly sustained injuries to his face and head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are searching for the lorry driver and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
