BN stays in unity govt as per UMNO assembly resolution

Barisan Nasional will remain in the Unity Government in line with the resolution passed at the UMNO General Assembly, says Ahmad Zahid.

CYBERJAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) will remain in the Unity Government in line with the stance and resolution reached at the last UMNO General Assembly (PAU), said its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In this regard, Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president and Deputy Prime Minister, said all parties are asked to respect the decision that was reached at the highest level.

“That is our stance and resolution that we have brought to the General Assembly (UMNO). There is no body higher than the General Assembly and we greatly respect the decision. So we hope you do not worry,” he said in a press conference after the 2026 Immigration Day celebration here today.

In another development, Ahmad Zahid said the decision to appoint or dismiss any individual in the Cabinet is the absolute right of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The power of appointment is the absolute right of the Prime Minister. So if the Prime Minister suspects or gets true information, that is the absolute power of the Prime Minister,” he said.

The media reported that the Prime Minister warned any minister, deputy minister and office-holder in government agencies not to use their positions to attack Unity Government partners while campaigning in the state election.

Anwar reportedly said that any relevant party who did so would be asked to resign from their positions.
