AGC orders murder probe into Durian Tunggal police shooting

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has ordered the fatal police shooting of three men in Melaka to be investigated as murder, following a review of the case.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has ordered the investigation into the fatal police shooting of three men in Melaka to be reclassified as murder.

In a statement today, the AGC said it had reviewed the case report and, based on a briefing and recommendations from the police, agreed to direct the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“The AGC’s initial investigation found that several further actions still need to be taken by PDRM to complete the investigation before any final decision is made,” it said.

The three men, aged between 24 and 29, were shot dead at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal on November 24.

Police stated one of the men had allegedly swung a machete at an officer, seriously injuring a corporal’s left arm.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects were believed to be en route to commit a robbery and were linked to numerous crimes.

He said the gang was active in 2024, involved in 20 cases in Melaka and one each in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor, with total losses amounting to RM1.35 million.

However, on December 3, the families of the three men denied claims the victims had acted violently by attacking police.

Following this, Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department set up a special task force to investigate the families’ allegations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said the case would be investigated thoroughly and transparently without any compromise.

He made the remarks during the oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Negara.
