Israel strikes Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah sites amid shaky ceasefire

Israel launches strikes on Lebanon, hitting Hezbollah infrastructure and a militant, as ceasefire monitors prepare to meet.

BEIRUT: Israel launched a series of strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon on Thursday.

The Israeli military said it targeted Hezbollah infrastructure, including a military compound used for training.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported several strikes on mountainous areas.

In a separate statement, the military said it struck a Hezbollah militant in the Taybeh area of southern Lebanon.

The attacks persist despite a November 2024 ceasefire intended to end hostilities.

Israel has maintained strikes and troops in five areas of southern Lebanon it deems strategic.

A ceasefire monitoring committee including the United States and France is set to meet on Friday.

On Tuesday, two people were killed in Israeli strikes, one occurring 30 kilometres south of Beirut.

Approximately 340 people have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began, according to an AFP tally.
