Malaysians are advised to postpone travel to Hat Yai as post-flood clean-up continues and medical centres are overwhelmed, with damage estimated at RM1.3 billion.
HAT YAI: Malaysians planning to visit Hat Yai have been advised to postpone their travel plans until the post-flood clean-up process is completed.
Malaysian Consul General in Songkhla Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi said the process is currently underway, with many trucks and heavy vehicles in the city.
He also warned that post-flood related diseases are spreading. “Many of the food premises and tourist attractions are still closed,” he said in a statement.
Medical centres in Hat Yai are reportedly very busy and have little capacity to accept new patients.
Ahmad Fahmi shared the update after receiving a mock cheque for RM5,000 from the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) yesterday.
The donation was presented by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who had visited several severely flooded areas in Hat Yai earlier.
The damage to public property caused by the floods in late November is estimated to be around RM1.3 billion.
