Major roads closed in Kuala Terengganu due to flash floods

Flash floods from heavy rain have closed key roads in Kuala Terengganu city, with police advising motorists to postpone travel.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Several major roads in the city were closed today following flash floods triggered by continuous heavy rain.

Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the affected roads include Jalan Sultan Omar, Jalan Kamaruddin, and Jalan Sultan Ismail heading towards Bulatan Ladang.

He said police personnel have been deployed to monitor the situation and assist with traffic flow.

“Road users are advised to exercise caution and comply with flood warning signs,” he told Bernama.

Azli advised the public to postpone travel into the city until floodwaters recede.

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu also announced the closure of several campus routes due to flooding.

The affected areas include an entrance at the Sports Complex and the road in front of the Student Complex.

“Members of the UMT community are advised to remain vigilant and comply with campus traffic instructions,” its statement said.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued an alert-level continuous rain warning for Terengganu and parts of Kelantan until December 28.

Similar warnings are in effect for districts in Pahang and Johor from December 26 to 29.
