Segamat flood evacuees rise to 148 as new relief centre opens

Flood evacuees in Johor’s Segamat district increase to 148 people, with a seventh relief centre opened to accommodate those displaced

SEGAMAT: The number of people evacuated due to floods in Johor rose to 148 from 50 families as of 8 am today.

This marks an increase from the 103 evacuees recorded the previous night.

A new relief centre was opened this morning, bringing the total number operating in the Segamat district to seven.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the centre at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Tah Kang opened at 8 am.

It is currently accommodating 34 people from 13 families.

The Kampung Batu Badak Community Hall is sheltering 40 people from 12 families.

Seventeen people from six families are at the Kampung Tasek Multipurpose Hall.

Five people from one family are taking refuge at the Kampung Jabi Community Hall.

Fourteen people from five families are housed at the Kampung Paya Lebar Community Hall.

The Pekan Air Panas Multipurpose Hall is accommodating 11 people from five families.

Twenty-seven people from eight families are at the Segamat Kecil Orang Asli Village Multipurpose Hall.

Asman Shah also reported that two rivers in the district have exceeded danger levels.

The affected rivers are Sungai Muar at Kampung Awat and Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap.

Meanwhile, several districts experienced rain this morning.

Johor Bahru, Mersing, Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi and Kulai all had rainfall.

Muar and Batu Pahat were cloudy, while Pontian and Tangkak had clear weather. – Bernama
