“I’m tired of people looking down on me,” said the man who came to view a 2018 Civic TC-P.
A Malaysian car salesperson’s story about a young man earning RM3,800 a month who decided to buy a used Honda Civic to improve his confidence has gone viral online.
In a thread shared by car dealer @jaajualkereta, the salesman recounted how a 27-year-old man came to view a 2018 Civic TC-P.
According to the post, the man had been working for five years and commuted to work on a motorcycle, with some savings set aside.
“But every time he meets clients, he feels like he lacks confidence.
“I’m tired of people looking down on me.”
The buyer initially assumed the monthly instalment for the car would exceed RM1,200.
But after calculations, the salesperson explained that the vehicle — priced at around RM65,800 — would require about a 10% deposit, with insurance and road tax costing roughly RM3,090.
This meant the estimated monthly instalment would be about RM800. After factoring in insurance, road tax and maintenance, the total monthly commitment would be around RM1,100.
“I told him honestly: “If your commitments are low, this is still reasonable,” said the salesman.

Instead of making an immediate decision, the man went home to think about it for two days.
The salesman said he respected the customer for not rushing into the purchase and for thinking carefully about his finances.
On the third day, the man returned with a simple explanation.
“Brother, if I buy this, it’s not to show off. I just want to feel like I’ve moved up a little in life.”
A month later, he sent a message to the salesman expressing his appreciation.
“Thank you. It’s true — my confidence has increased when meeting clients and people around me,” he wrote.
