Sarawak records losses of RM120m to commercial crime last year

KUCHING: A total of 1,340 commercial crime cases involving losses amounting to RM120 million were recorded in Sarawak last year.

State Commercial Crime Investigation Department deputy chief DSP Maria Rasid said although the number of cases had decreased by 25% compared to 1,777 cases in 2018, in terms of total losses, a 54% increase was recorded compared to RM78 million in the previous year.

“Criminal breach of trust notched the highest number of cases with 233 and RM22 million in losses recorded,” she told a press conference, here today.

Also present were Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Ramli Din and his deputy Datuk Dev Kumar M. M. Sree.

Maria said this was followed by non-existent money-lending activities which recorded 210 cases involving losses of RM2 million; Macau Scam (140 cases involving RM13 million); Love Scam (84 cases involving RM4 million); Internet purchase scam (71 cases involving RM1 million) and investment scam (64 cases involving RM7 million). - Bernama
