A 15-year-old boy charged with murdering a schoolmate is deemed mentally fit to stand trial and has been moved to a juvenile detention centre.
PETALING JAYA: The Magistrate’s Court was informed that a teenage boy charged with murdering a schoolmate is mentally fit to stand trial.
Lawyer Kitson Foong, representing the 15-year-old accused, said a psychiatric report from Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta confirmed his client can understand court proceedings.
“The boy is fit to be brought to court for trial and can defend himself,” Foong told reporters after an in-camera proceeding before Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal.
The court also ordered the accused be transferred to the Puncak Alam Correctional Centre, a juvenile detention facility in Selangor.
He was previously held at Hospital Bahagia and must now attend monthly counselling and therapy sessions.
The case has been fixed for mention again on February 6.
The boy was charged on October 22 last year with murdering his 16-year-old female schoolmate in a secondary school toilet in Bandar Utama.
The alleged offence occurred between 9.20am and 9.35am on October 14, 2025.
No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under High Court jurisdiction.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and whipping.
However, Section 97(1) of the Child Act 2001 prohibits imposing the death penalty on offenders under 18.
Instead, the court must order detention at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin prosecuted the case.
Lawyer Nur Izni Syazwani Ahmad held a watching brief for the deceased’s mother.
