Two sales promoters in Kuantan deny cheating a woman of RM23,000 through a fake electrical goods investment scheme, with their case set for mention in April
KUANTAN: Two sales promoters pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of cheating a woman of RM23,000.
Muhammad Khairul Nizam Rahmat, 32, and Nadyah Rozlan, 25, entered their pleas before Magistrate Mohd Fauzan Mohd Suhairi.
They are accused of deceiving a 58-year-old woman by offering a non-existent electrical goods investment scheme. The offence allegedly occurred with two other individuals who are still at large.
The victim was allegedly deceived into handing over RM23,000 at a pawnshop in Jalan Bukit Ubi here on Jan 13.
The charge falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34. The section provides for a prison term of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
Counsel for the accused applied for lower bail, citing their personal circumstances. Muhammad Khairul Nizam supports his elderly parents, while Nadyah is a single mother with a school-going child and a sick father.
The court allowed bail of RM5,000 for each accused with one surety. The case has been set for mention on April 4.
