Kuala Lumpur police cripple a drug syndicate using flavoured drinks as a cover, seizing drugs and assets worth nearly RM1 million in coordinated raids.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate that used flavoured drinks as a distribution medium.
The syndicate was dismantled following three coordinated raids around the capital last Wednesday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the operations led to seizures and confiscations totalling RM978,857.
The raids, conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, also resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old local man.
The first raid targeted a terraced house and a car believed to be used for processing and storing drugs.
Two subsequent raids were carried out at a separate vehicle and house, leading to further seizures.
Among the drugs seized were 867.25 kilogrammes of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) liquid valued at RM701,850.
Police also confiscated 5.48 kg of MDMA powder, 190 vape cartridges containing ketamine liquid, and 306 cannabis cigarettes.
Other seizures included 21g of ketamine, 5.28g of ecstasy, and 21.08g of Erimin 5 pills.
Assets including two vehicles, jewellery, watches, and cash in multiple currencies were also confiscated.
Fadil said the suspect used vehicles to transport drugs between locations.
Houses were used as storage and processing sites before the drugs were sold to the public.
The illicit substances were processed and packaged to resemble ordinary flavoured drinks.
This tactic was used to mislead authorities, with prices depending on content and quality.
The 29-year-old suspect has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations.
He is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Initial drug screening tests on the suspect returned negative results.
Fadil stressed that police will not compromise with any party involved in drug trafficking.
He urged the public to channel information via the NCID Hotline at 012-208 7222.
