RM179 million in subsidised goods seized since 2024

Ops Tiris has seized nearly RM179 million in subsidised goods since 2024, with petrol, diesel and cooking oil the most diverted items.

PASIR MAS: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s Ops Tiris has seized nearly RM179 million worth of subsidised controlled goods since 2024.

Enforcement Director-General Datuk Azman Adam said the figure highlights the scale of leakages the ministry has curbed nationwide.

The total comprises RM91.59 million seized in 2024, RM81.69 million in 2025 and RM5.73 million in January 2026 alone.

These were achieved through integrated enforcement operations with related agencies.

Azman said the period involved 93,887 inspections, resulting in 5,269 cases and 660 arrests.

He noted a 14.2% decline in cases and a 10.8% drop in seizure value from 2024 to 2025.

“Although the seizure value is high, the statistics reflect the effectiveness of our enforcement strategy,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Rantau Panjang ICQS Complex.

For January 2026, 3,237 inspections recorded 183 cases, 39 arrests and seizures worth RM5.73 million.

Azman said petrol, diesel and cooking oil remained the most frequently diverted items, though cases are trending down.

Petrol-related cases fell from 969 in 2024 to 797 in 2025, with 49 cases in early 2026.

Diesel cases declined from 744 to 503, while cooking oil cases dropped from 479 to 404 over the same period.

Firm action included revoking and suspending wholesale and retail licences.

The suspension of eCOSS quotas was also applied to non-compliant packaging companies.

At the supply chain level, forensic audits were conducted on packaging companies.

This is supported by real-time monitoring through an upgraded eCOSS system and a pilot retail mobile app.

Enforcement digitalisation is being strengthened using fleet cards under the Subsidised Petrol Control System.

These record transactions in real time.

Azman said while cases and complaints have declined, room for improvement remains to curb smuggling.

New regulations will prohibit non-citizens from buying subsidised packet cooking oil from March 1.

A ban on subsidised RON95 petrol sales to foreign-registered vehicles will take effect from April 1.

KPDN has intensified petrol station inspections for the BUDI MADANI RON95 programme.
