MACC arrests 36 top management civil servants for corruption since 2021, with RM22 million in bribes involved and eight convictions secured.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested 36 civil servants from the Top Management Group for corruption between 2021 and January 31 this year.
Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said 20 charges have been filed, involving bribes totalling RM22 million.
He confirmed eight cases have resulted in convictions so far.
Shamsul Anuar outlined the ministry’s zero-tolerance policy during an oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Negara.
He said this includes strict enforcement and increased use of technology like body-worn cameras to prevent power abuse.
“Disciplinary and legal action will be taken strictly in accordance with the law,” he stated.
He emphasised this applies regardless of an officer’s rank if sufficient evidence exists.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also supports the new Integrity and Governance Management System (SPINE).
Shamsul Anuar said SPINE serves as a self-assessment mechanism for public sector organisations.
“It helps identify gaps for improvement while enhancing transparency and accountability,” he added.
