Auxiliary police services must not be misused for commercial purposes, says senior officer, stressing role is to support national security
KUALA LUMPUR: Parties using auxiliary police services have been reminded not to misinterpret the force’s role or misuse it for commercial purposes.
Deputy Director of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid (pic) said the auxiliary police exist to support national security and assist the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
He stressed that abuse of power, deployment beyond limits, or using personnel for commercial gain is strictly prohibited.
“Such practices are not only in breach of regulations but may also undermine the credibility and public confidence in security institutions,” he said.
Nik Ros Azhan was speaking at the closing of the 36th Annual Conference of the Malaysian Auxiliary Police Association (MAPA).
He also called for serious attention to manpower issues within the auxiliary police force.
Shortages and imbalanced deployment could directly impact operational efficiency and premises security, he noted.
“I call on every agency to plan manpower filling in a more strategic and phased manner,” he added.
He revealed that 57,000 auxiliary police posts have been approved, but only 27,000 are currently gazetted.
The level of professionalism among personnel must also be continuously strengthened, he said.
Training must address evolving threats like cybersecurity and crisis management, not just physical risks.
Meanwhile, MAPA president Datin Seri Asmawati Ahmad hoped more agencies would register with the association.
This would facilitate dealings with PDRM on training and advisory services, she said.
Currently, 181 out of 281 agencies using auxiliary police services are registered with MAPA.
Major users include Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, FGV Holdings Bhd, and port operating companies.
