Kedah health authorities confiscate RM13.4 million worth of unregistered traditional medicines containing banned substances in a major statewide raid.
ALOR SETAR: The Kedah state health department has seized unregistered health products valued at RM13.4 million.
The raid targeted 11 business premises across the state yesterday.
State health director Dr Nor’Aishah Abu Bakar said the products were suspected of containing scheduled poisons.
This violates provisions under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 and the Poisons Act 1952.
“A total of 227 products were seized with a value of RM13.4 million,” she said in a statement today.
She confirmed the items were locally-manufactured Chinese traditional medicines.
These medicines contained banned substances like steroids and allopurinol listed under the Poisons Act.
Three digital devices and three manufacturing machines were also confiscated during the operation.
The offences breach Rule 7(1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.
They are punishable under Section 12(1) of the Sale of Drugs Act 1952.
Dr Nor’Aishah said the enforcement was part of continuous efforts by the Kedah Pharmacy Enforcement Branch.
The operation aims to curb the sales and distribution of illegal health products.
She encouraged the public to report suspicious health products or medicines.
Complaints can be channelled to the hotline 03-78413200.
