Elderly motorcyclist killed, wife injured in lorry crash on Ipoh-Lumut road

A 60-year-old man died and his wife was injured after their motorcycle collided with a lorry that signalled right but turned left in Ipoh.

IPOH: An elderly man was killed and his wife seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a lorry on Jalan Ipoh-Lumut.

The incident occurred around 3 pm on Saturday when a Hino lorry, driven by a 23-year-old man, suddenly turned left after passing a traffic light.

Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the motorcyclist, 60-year-old Ahmad Taufik Abu Bakar, died at the scene from his injuries.

His 61-year-old wife, Azizah Mat Jamat, suffered a fractured left leg and was taken to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for treatment.

The victim’s body was sent to the hospital’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.

Further inspection revealed the motorcycle involved did not have a valid road tax and its insurance had expired.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Abang Zainal Abidin.

He added that the lorry driver has been detained to assist with the investigation.

A 30-second dashcam video of the incident has gone viral since Saturday morning.

The footage shows the lorry signalling right but then turning left when the traffic light turned green. – Bernama
