Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed is re-appointed as Dewan Negara Deputy Speaker for a second term, serving from 2026 to 2029
KUALA LUMPUR: Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has been re-appointed as Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Negara for a second term.
The sole nomination for the position was submitted by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, before the question and answer session at Dewan Negara today.
Earlier, Nur Jazlan and Mussodak Ahmad were re-appointed as Senators for a second term and were sworn in before the Speaker of Dewan Negara Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah today.
Nur Jazlan’s reappointment by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is for a period of three years, from June 15 2026 to June 14 2029, while Mussodak’s re-appointment by the Kedah State Legislative Assembly is for a period of three years, from March 20 2026 to March 19 2029.
Nur Jazlan, 60, who is also a member of the UMNO Supreme Council and the Pulai Division UMNO chief, previously served as Deputy Speaker of the Senate since June 2023.
He also held the position of Deputy Home Minister from 2015 to 2018 and was the Member of Parliament for Pulai from 2004 to 2018.
Meanwhile, Mussodak is the Kedah PAS secretary and had contested the Bayu and Guar Chempedak state seats.
He was first appointed as a Senator representing the Kedah State Assembly for the first term in March 2023.
According to the parliamentary calendar, the Senate sitting for the Second Meeting, Fifth Term of the 15th Parliament will last for 10 days from July 20 to August 4.
