Pahang urged to provide rental aid for landslide victims

Pahang assemblymen call for rental assistance for displaced residents and urgent funding for coastal erosion protection and landslide warning systems.

KUANTAN: The Pahang government has been urged to provide rental assistance to residents displaced by a landslide at the Puncak Arabella Apartments in Cameron Highlands.

Ho Chi Yang (PH-Tanah Rata) said nine families involving 39 individuals remain housed at a temporary evacuation centre following the November 28 incident.

He made the appeal during the debate on the Pahang Budget 2026 at the State Assembly sitting today.

The Cameron Highlands District Disaster Management Committee had earlier ordered 24 housing units with 91 residents to evacuate Block C due to safety concerns.

Ho also called for the expansion of landslide early warning systems in high-risk residential areas.

He urged for a dedicated allocation to local authorities to install such systems on slopes near homes.

In the same debate, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Johari Hussain (BN-Tioman) highlighted severe coastal erosion in Kampung Kuala Pontian.

He said strong waves had endangered residents and damaged 10 chalets, two houses and a restaurant.

He urged authorities to take immediate action, including an allocation of between RM500,000 and RM1 million for a protective wave-retaining wall.

The State Assembly sitting continues tomorrow.
