Pahang urges Genting Highlands road charge to consider residents’ welfare

Pahang government calls for Genting Highlands road charges to protect local residents’ interests, including school transport and daily commuters

ROMPIN: The Pahang government has requested that any charges imposed on vehicles using Jalan Genting Highlands consider local residents’ interests and welfare.

State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim said involved parties should pay special attention to workers and community welfare in the area.

“This includes parents sending their children to school and residents who travel through the area daily,” he told reporters after launching Sanwa Tours (M) Sdn Bhd’s new express bus service at Terminal Sentral Muadzam Shah.

Genting Malaysia Bhd confirmed on Thursday that charges will be implemented for vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands, with the date to be announced later.

The company stated the private road charge is necessary due to steep and escalating maintenance costs for the 24-kilometre private road and its slopes.

These maintenance expenses have been borne solely by Genting Malaysia since the 1960s. – Bernama
