Selangor cracks down on illegal waste dumping with RM10m fund

Selangor launches RM10 million initiative and stricter enforcement to eradicate illegal waste dumping, targeting hotspots and improving cleanliness.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has declared an all-out war on illegal waste dumping across the state this year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced stricter enforcement and enhanced inter-agency coordination as key strategies to ensure a cleaner environment.

“We will ensure that there are no more illegal waste disposal sites in Selangor,” he said in his 2026 New Year’s message.

He stated the move responds to public demand for faster action and better services in cleanliness and solid waste management.

Amirudin stressed that resolving waste issues requires coordinated action, not inter-agency finger-pointing.

He warned that anyone found complicit in illegal dumping would face strict action.

“We can no longer keep passing the blame,” he said, calling for shared responsibility among all parties.

As a concrete measure, the state announced a RM10 million allocation for village cleaning and beautification programmes.

The funding falls under the Kita Selangor 2026 Special Initiative, focusing on areas with inefficient waste collection.

“I want to ensure that this year, there will no longer be problems involving the accumulation of garbage in village areas,” Amirudin added.

Cleanup efforts will prioritise hotspot areas frequently highlighted in public complaints.

These include locations in the Hulu Langat district and areas with homestay and chalet activities.

The state is also optimistic about the new Waste-to-Energy plant scheduled for completion in March 2026.

Amirudin believes firm enforcement and new facilities will help achieve a cleaner, more sustainable Selangor.
